We finally got the chance to watch Disney Wish on Disney+, which brings a delightful mix of nostalgia and modernity. As lifelong Disney fans, we had high hopes for this film, and while it hit many of the right notes, there were a few areas that left us wanting more. Here are our thoughts on this enchanting new movie.

A Soundtrack to Remember

One of the standout elements of Disney Wish is its soundtrack. Disney has always excelled in the music department, and this film is no exception. The songs are catchy and heartwarming, with a few tracks that we predict will become instant classics. It's clear that a lot of effort went into crafting a musical experience that resonates with both kids and adults alike. If you're looking for some new bangers to add to your playlist, this soundtrack is worth a listen.

Pacing: A Bit Too Hasty

At a brisk 95 minutes, Disney Wish feels a bit rushed in its storytelling. The narrative moves quickly, perhaps too quickly, as it reveals the villain and core conflict earlier than expected. While this keeps the plot moving and maintains a high energy level, it sacrifices some depth and development that could have made the story more impactful. We would have loved a bit more time to build up the tension and explore the characters' motivations in greater detail.

Animation: A Tribute to Tradition

What Disney Wish truly excels in is its animation style. The film beautifully blends modern animation techniques with a traditional aesthetic that harks back to Disney's golden age. This homage to classic Disney is evident in the character designs, background art, and even the way scenes transition. For fans of old-school Disney movies, this stylistic choice is a delightful nod to the past, evoking a sense of nostalgia while still feeling fresh and new.

Easter Eggs Galore

As is customary with Disney films, Disney Wish is peppered with Easter eggs that reference previous movies. Allegedly, there are around 100 hidden nods scattered throughout the film. While we didn't catch anywhere near that many, the ones we did spot were a fun addition that added an extra layer of enjoyment. It’s always a treat to see how Disney honors its rich history and keeps long-time fans engaged with these subtle references.

Final Thoughts

Disney Wish is a charming film that offers a lot for both new audiences and die-hard Disney enthusiasts. Its vibrant soundtrack and stunning animation are definite highlights, even if the pacing leaves something to be desired. Whether you're watching for the nostalgic elements or the fresh story, there’s plenty to appreciate in this magical adventure. Keep your eyes peeled for those Easter eggs – they’re a delightful bonus that showcases Disney's love for its own legacy.
